Tense Music from a "Tense" Album... haha get it? Tense Album? har har har

More Rhapsody bliss. Here's one that I most certainly wouldn't have originally bought off the CD racks based on the reviews I've read, but now that I've had a chance to listen to it on Rhapsody, I love it... and I actually bought the CD too the other day when I found it a used promo copy for $7. All the reviews are pointing to the early 90's influences like Nirvana, Sonic Youth, etc, etc, etc... Which is all good, just seemingly out-of-place in 2003. I mean, aren't we another 5-8 years away from a full grunge revival? We are squarely rooted in an 80's new wave reincarnation now so are these guys (and girl) behind the times (i.e. not able to move on from the 90s) or way ahead of the times? Whatever the case, the fact of the matter is that this is good music. I would probably lean more towards being ahead of the time because they take the dirty rock sounds of the 90s and update them, adding a freshness to them with interesting vocals and melodic qualities. The whispered vocals add just the right amount of smooth to the drive of the expertly recorded drums, bass, and distorted guitar. Sounds awesome on my Rhapsody setup, and kicks ass in my car. Enjoy!
