Former NFL Star Continues Legacy... No, Wait...

Continuing to stumble upon some great ones here... I've been very inspired--now being involved in the great Radish--to find new gems and this is one of them. This band is basically the side project for former American Football member, Mike Kinsella. Not sure how many of you enjoyed the albeit short existence of American Football, but I did. They were a very subtle band, with very subtle song... kinda Pinback-ish. Emo back when emo wasn't such a horrible word. I'd say Owen is similar to American Football in the way the songs are subdued, but extremely interesting and grabbing... not in a hooky way, but just something keeps your attention. I find myself start to push this music back to background music, but then something will quickly perk my interest again. The vocals are more present that AF, which I enjoy. This release (just out on November 9th) is the third long-player from Owen, but Mike also released to EPs earlier this year. I recommend this one for the stellar version of the AF "classic" Never Meant. Enjoy!
